Gwen McCrae - On My Way

GWEN MCCRAE’S PIONEERING 1982 ALBUM ON MY WAY

AVAILABLE ON LIPSTICK PINK VINYL JUNE 6 - Pre-order now here

Gwen McCrae’s iconic album, On My Way, will be re-released as a 1LP on Lipstick Pink vinyl for the first time since 1982. On My Way encompasses McCrae’s timeless hold on dance music and presence on the ballroom floor.

Originally released in 1982, On My Way encapsulates the feel of 1980s dance culture and limitless womanhood. Songs like “Hey World” and “Keep the Fire Burning” exhibit McCrae’s ability to fuse powerhouse vocals, contagious grooves, and unfeigned songwriting.

After one week of meeting in 1963, McCrae married her collaborator, George McCrae. The duo became a vital part of the Miami-based TK Records, an entity responsible for pioneering the disco explosion (releasing early K.C. and the Sunshine Band, Anita Ward, and Betty Wright). Though the rise and fall of TK Records, “disco craze”, and their marriage happened all too fast, McCrae found a consistent audience in the U.K.’s northern soul scene, and eventually gained her title as the “Queen of Rare Groove”

McCrae passed earlier this year, leaving a legacy that is forever encapsulated by modern dance-pop icons Cassius, Avicii, Cypress Hill, Lady Gaga, and countless others, sampling McCrae’s catalog—affirming that her powerhouse songwriting and vocals continue to be a timeless staple.
